Phase shift dieting

While I recommend eating fairly clean all the time, I realize many of you will go on a “diet” at one time or another. What typically happens is you begin the diet by cutting bad carbs or calories and soon after the weight begins to drop off. This continues for a time and then suddenly- you hit a sticking point where no more fat is lost, often leading to frustration. What happens is your body has reacted to the reduced caloric consumption by slowing your metabolism down to preserve your fat stores in the event of starvation.

Is there a way to remedy this? Absolutely! We need to trick your body into believing that we are not going to starve it by altering our diet. To do this we are going to add phase-shift dieting. Once every 5 days increase your calories to nearly the point they were prior to your dieting for one day. What this does is adjust your body to your old caloric level for the one day, which causes your body to increase your metabolism. The day after when you return to the reduced calories of your diet your metabolism will continue to burn calories at an elevated pace for several days. Repeat this sequence every 5 days during your diet to lose fat much faster than you would normally.
